Spoiler-free. 3 stars. Started and finished within 12 hours!

This book was definitely unique and unlike anything I've read before in that both main characters suffer from an addiction, which was an interesting dynamic to read about. The main reason this wasn't rated higher for me was just because the storyline and general idea were not captivating enough for me. The plotline was rocky and insignificant, and I already predicted who Ryke was (and his significance/relation to Lo) when he was introduced.

I wouldn't go so far as to say this book was generic, but it was not so unbelievable that I had to keep reading. Of course, a book doesn't have to be that way to motivate me to read it, but Addicted to You also just lacked a lot of character exposure and development. Of course, this is the first book, and I shouldn't be expecting so much development, but to see that there was little to no progress and the fact that the same dull-as-dishwasher characters kept popping up was not keeping me going. As Lily said about herself, she has no other hobbies other than her addiction. Wow, what an intriguing FMC (female main character) to read about, no?

Anyways, I also just don't want to be too harsh because it's just the first book in the series and the authors have probably intended for it to be so negative and progress-less so that the other books can really emphasize it better (in slow burn fashion). So, I guess I'll just read the next books to find out.

PLOT/CHARACTERS:

Lily Calloway is a 20-year-old sex addict. She cannot function without it for longer than a day (which is pathetic, how on earth do you get anything done?). Loren Hale is a 21-year-old alcoholic. They're roommates and childhood friends. They are both interested in each other romantically, so they have the groundbreaking idea of getting together. Loren satiates Lily's addiction, and Lily allows Loren to drink as much as he wants in return (in what universe is this healthy?) Anyways, they obviously realize this isn't sustainable, so they try to stop their addictions, which fails countless times. The whole book is just rocky from start to finish, and so are the next books. The Addicted series (unlike the Calloway Sisters series) is not worth reading if you're contemplating reading it. Lily doesn't have a personality at all (other than when she cries, and in the next few books, she shrinks into an even smaller shell and she's only ever seen crying. So, even the FMC is revoltingly boring to read about.) At least Loren has a shred of personality, and he loses that in the next couple of books too, only seen doing nothing, defending Lily, comforting Lily, or cracking a joke once in a blue moon.
