Rating: 4 stars! (Spoiler free)
Edit (June 1st): 3 stars. (Especially after reconsidering how much better this book could've been with flashbacks and how annoying Lana is).
Commendations (no spoilers):
It was really cute! I loved the character development, and I loved all the characters in the book. It was much more unique than the previous two in the series (which were like quillbotted versions of each other, they were so similar) and this is my favorite book from the complete series. I love Cal and I really sympathized with his issues, and I'm really glad he managed to see past those issues for himself and Lana rather than for something temporary or inconsistent. Lana was so strong yet had such a bold emotional compass that I really admire, and Cami is the cutest thing to ever exist.
Possible improvements:
I do think the side characters could've been developed more because I was still questioning who Leo and the other people were by the end. Also, even though the topics discussed were so heavy, I didn't feel very emotional about them. Yes, I felt extremely sympathetic, but I didn't tear up once throughout the entire book, which takes away a few points in my mind. The book also followed a generic plotline (guy gets with girl but keeps secret, girl discovers secret, they break up, they get back together). Despite the fact that it was written well, this does not change the fact that I have read dozens of other books with the same base plot.
(June 1st edit continuation)
For this reason, this book gets -2 stars for lack of originality. Furthermore, I can't believe Lauren Asher passed up the opportunity to do a happy second-chance romance and not include flashbacks (like All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover, the book that has made me cry the most in my entire life) when they were happy and together, then showing the complete contrast in the next in present-day.
All in all, I can say that reading this series as a whole was not worth it. The first two were classic, basic billionaire romances with nothing special, and this was a typical small-town romance but the guy has a different struggle (alcohol addiction). If you're contemplating reading the Dreamland Billionaires series, I wouldn't recommend you to. In fact, Lauren's other series (the F1/Dirty Air series) was so much more original and I felt a lot more connected to her characters. Definitely read that series.
